Description for 1:
Add an exotic set to your tea set collection with this Dragonware tea set from Japan. Tea set has been used in showcase for many decades but for display purposes only. This is my grandmother's collection from the 20th century.
The applied raised white designs are known as "moriage." It's been made in Japan since the late 19th century. When you hold the tea cup against light, you get to see an image of a geisha. The picture in the bottom of the cup is called a "lithophane." It is made by casting the clay in layers of various thicknesses so that a picture of light and shadow can be seen through it when it is held to the light.
